Reconstruction Agency Recruiting Participants for Events During "Tohoku Reconstruction Month"

The Reconstruction Agency has designated June 2016 as "Tohoku Reconstruction Month" and will host two events. The goal is to widely share the experiences and lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake and communicate the current state of reconstruction both domestically and internationally.

On June 6, the "Great East Japan Earthquake 5th Anniversary Reconstruction Forum: A New Stage - Toward Reconstruction and Rebirth" will be held at the Iino Hall & Conference Center in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. Freelance announcer Hiroshi Ikushima will serve as the overall moderator. The forum will feature a tripartite discussion among the governors of the three disaster-affected prefectures titled "Five Years Since the Disaster: Progress and Future Outlook" and a panel discussion with experts titled "Lessons from the Disaster and Future Challenges for Reconstruction and Revitalization" (both tentative titles).

The forum has a capacity of 450 people. Advance registration ( http://fukkoforum2016.peatix.com/view ) is required to attend (free admission).

At the same venue, breakout sessions will be held featuring panel discussions and exhibitions on the themes of "Disaster Prevention and Community Development," "Revitalizing Industry and Livelihoods," "Fukushima Information Outreach," and "Community." Participation in the breakout sessions is free and open to all; no registration is required.

From June 11 to 28, "Exchange Meeting in Tohoku: People Creating a 'New Tohoku'" will be held at Arts Chiyoda 3331 in the same ward. This event focuses on "new challenges" in reconstruction and the people involved, conveying the "present" of the disaster-affected areas.

In collaboration with private organizations, information sharing and workshops will be held, particularly highlighting the recovery efforts of young people and women, and the role of art. The "New Tohoku Market" will also feature sales of Tohoku specialty products by invited producers. Admission to the meeting is free.
