On June 27, Dentsu Inc. announced that it, along with five other major global advertising groups, will collaborate on specific themes to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Responding to a call from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to advance the SDGs, the six major global advertising groups—Dentsu Inc. and the Dentsu Aegis Network-centered Dentsu Group, along with ABC, IPG Inc., Omnicom, Publicis, and WPP—have joined forces. To address pressing global challenges, they will jointly support SDGs through initiatives like the "Common Ground" advertising campaign, leveraging the creative strengths inherent to advertising agencies.
As a first step, the CEOs of each group gathered at a session held on June 24 during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity to share their awareness of the challenges.
The top executives of the six groups issued a joint statement: "The 'Common Ground' advertising campaign is a groundbreaking project. To achieve the SDGs adopted by the United Nations, the six groups are joining hands beyond their rivalry to tackle the world's serious challenges. We hope that by collaborating and working together for broad common challenges, even amid fierce competition among advertising agencies, similar initiatives and relationships will emerge in other industries and companies."

The SDGs form the core of the "Transforming Our World: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" adopted at the 70th UN General Assembly in September 2015. They consist of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, including the elimination of poverty, hunger, and inequality.
