The signing ceremony for Japan's participation in the "2017 Astana International Exposition" (hereafter Astana Expo), the first World Expo held in Central Asia, took place on November 7 at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Nagatacho, Tokyo. In the presence of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Nursultan Nazarbayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the participation agreement for the Japan Pavilion was signed between Tomoyasu Nakamura, the Japanese Government Representative for the Exhibition Area, and Akhmetzhan Yessimov, President of the Expo Corporation.

The Astana Expo, themed "Future Energy," will be held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, for 93 days from June 10 to September 10, 2017.
The Japan Pavilion's exhibition theme is "Smart Mix with Technology: All Japan's Experience and Challenge." It will showcase not only Japan's advanced technology and experience in energy conservation and energy mix, but also the Japanese culture and spirit that underpin these achievements to the world.

The Japan Pavilion's exhibition consists of three zones. Zone I conveys Japan's past experiences in solving energy challenges. Zone II introduces the latest technologies for a future energy mix society in a large theater. Zone III features showcases with actual exhibits, allowing visitors to deepen their impressions and appreciation of Japan through hands-on experiences.
