The "Michinoku Reconstruction Project Partners," which includes Dentsu Inc., will co-host the 5th "Michinoku Reconstruction Project Symposium" with the NPO ETIC. on March 6th, approximately six years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Through past Tohoku recovery practices, it will explore the future of local communities and the evolving role of businesses.
The Partners is a platform launched in June 2012 where companies collaboratively support entrepreneurs, NPOs, and organizations active in Tohoku. Currently, six companies participate: Isuzu Motors, Kao, JCB, Toshiba, Benesse Holdings, and Dentsu Inc.
Six years after the March 11 disaster, Tohoku remains in the midst of reconstruction. Simultaneously, social challenges that existed before the disaster—population decline, aging, and economic contraction—continue to progress. However, momentum is growing to pioneer a new economic model for Japan's future: one that does not depend on large cities but instead fosters robust local circulation, explores new ways for people to live richly, and builds sustainable regional communities.
As cross-sector collaboration between local governments, NPOs, and businesses becomes increasingly vital, Tohoku's collaborative efforts offer valuable lessons and discoveries for regional revitalization. This symposium explores how companies should engage with this movement and what outcomes such engagement can yield.
