Japan Post (JP) held its "2014 New Year's Card Acceptance Commencement Ceremony" at JP Tower in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on December 15. At the start, President Toru Takahashi stated, "We have implemented special measures again this year to handle the New Year's cards. Please use the dedicated website 'Yubin-nenga.jp' and mail your cards early." On stage, New Year's card image character and talent Mariko Shinoda and J.League Cerezo Osaka player Yoichiro Kakitani appeared in kimono. Together with President Takahashi, they unveiled a special postbox. The postbox featured Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as its motif. The two celebrities mailed cards alongside a first-grade elementary student sending New Year's cards to friends for the first time. Immediately afterward, comedian Sugi-chan emerged from the postbox, exclaiming, "Got 'em for sure~!", surprising the audience.

Sugichan then challenged himself to create a New Year's card for Shinozuka using the free app "Postcard Design Kit 2014," which allows users to design and mail cards directly from their smartphones. The kit enables sending physical cards even to recipients with unknown addresses: iPhones use mobile phone numbers and email addresses, while Android devices utilize Twitter and Mixi IDs. Shinozuka and Kakita, who had already tried the kit, talked about its ease and fun. Sugi-chan urged everyone to mail their cards, saying, "Don't miss the December 25th deadline, you know!"
