The Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) Europe Tourism Promotion Council (Team Europe) held "Media Day 2013" at Aoyama Diamond Hall in Tokyo on November 28. The event targeted television programs, websites, magazines, and newspaper articles covering Europe. The event recognized media outlets that contributed to boosting Japanese interest in European tourism. Team Europe is sponsored by 37 companies and organizations, including European travel agencies, airlines, and national tourism boards.
Opening the event, JATA Vice President Hiromi Tagawa (President of JTB) stated, "Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the liberalization of overseas travel, and we aim to further increase interest in Europe." Kaoru Kanetaka, Honorary President of the Japan Travel Writers Association and Chair of the Final Selection Committee, remarked, "We hope you will continue to create excellent tours and disseminate information about overseas destinations."

Television Division Awards

At the awards ceremony, Excellence Awards were announced and presented across five categories by media type. In the Magazine category, 'Claire Traveler' won for "To Elegant Britain: The Lake District, Northern England, London." The newspaper category award went to Kahoku Shimpo for "Clear Skies Over the Alps: Visiting Switzerland's Valais Region." The web category award was given to Chikyu no Arukikata (blog) for "007 Scotland Connection: Bond-Style Ways to Experience Scotland." The free paper/membership magazine category award went to PPSG for their free magazine 'Italy Lovers'. The Television category was won by BS Nippon TV for the program "Harmonies of Japan: Resonating at World Heritage Site 'Dubrovnik'!"
