Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee Honors Outstanding Poster Entries from Elementary, Junior High, and High School Students
On March 30, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee selected outstanding entries from submissions to its 2017 "Poster Contest for Elementary and Junior High School Students" and held an awards ceremony at the Panasonic Center Tokyo in Koto Ward.

Since fiscal year 2015, the Organizing Committee has been soliciting posters themed around the Olympic and Paralympic Games from elementary and junior high school students nationwide to increase their interest and sense of participation in the Tokyo 2020 Games. This time, outstanding works were selected from approximately 14,000 entries (from about 400 participating schools) submitted in fiscal year 2017, following a selection process involving media committee members.
The theme was "Learn! Watch! Cheer! My Dream for the Tokyo 2020 Games."

At the outset, Chairman Yoshiro Mori addressed the children: "I want to express my gratitude for the large number of entries. Each one was a wonderful piece of work. We will utilize them in various ways going forward, but please continue to take an even greater interest in the Games and cheer them on."
Media Committee Chairman Hisashi Hieda (Fuji Television Network, Inc. Director and Senior Advisor) stated, "The 1964 Tokyo Olympics succeeded because all of Japan united. We hope these posters, displayed nationwide, will inspire many people to support the Games."

A total of 62 works were selected as outstanding (6 Gold Prizes, 7 Silver Prizes, 7 Bronze Prizes, and 42 other Outstanding Works). The six Gold Prize winners were invited to the venue as representatives.
Awards included certificates and postcards printed with the winners' own artwork.
The children commented: "I was happy to receive applause from my whole class," "I learned about the efforts of para-athletes," and "I expressed that supporters are also part of creating the Games."
Guest attendees, Olympian Yohiro Kamiyama (Trampoline) and Paralympian Aki Taguchi (Shooting), shared their impressions: "Seeing the dynamism in the artwork renewed my determination for the Tokyo Games," and "The smiles depicted were striking. I want to strive so everyone can welcome 2020 with smiles."

The 62 winning entries will be displayed at the center until May 6th via digital signage projections and a 9-screen multi-vision display. They are also scheduled to be shown at Games-related events.
