New Big Mac arrives for its 50th anniversary! Exciting campaign underway

McDonald's Japan will launch its "Big Mac 50th Anniversary Campaign" starting April 14 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the globally popular regular menu item, the Big Mac. Ahead of this, the company held a press conference at its Tokyo facility on the 11th.

Hikaru Adachi, Head of National Marketing, stated, "We have prepared initiatives worthy of this 50th anniversary, so please look forward to them," and introduced the campaign details.
The campaign will feature limited-time sales of new Big Macs: the "Big Mac Bacon" and "Big Mac BLT," along with the "Grand Set," which allows customers to upgrade from a medium size to a larger size for an additional 100 yen when adding a drink and McDonald's fries. Additionally, a packed lineup of initiatives will be rolled out, including the "Big Mac Champion Tournament" to crown the ultimate Big Mac fan, sales of collaboration items with popular brands for watches, baseball caps, and apparel, and the return of the popular "Big Mac Sauce" from last year.

Shigeaki Wakana, Senior Manager of the Menu Management Department, stated, "The two new Big Mac items are special menu items only available during this period. They are burgers designed to let you fully savor the deliciousness of the Big Mac. We hope you'll try them alongside the regular menu to discover new flavors."

Actor Atsuro Watabe, the commercial character, and talent Minami Takahashi made an appearance at the venue.
Upon learning that the Big Mac, like himself, is celebrating its 50th anniversary, Watanabe expressed his delight: "I'm thrilled to be chosen for the commercial at such a celebratory time." He revealed his lifelong love for McDonald's, saying, "The first time I ate a Big Mac was when my mother bought it for me at my elementary school sports day. It was a food I'd always admired, so I was incredibly happy. My love for McDonald's is well-known; I still eat there at least three times a week."

Takahashi, a self-proclaimed "McDonald's Lover" recognized by all, emphasized her own deep affection for the Big Mac: "The Big Mac holds a special place for me. When work goes well, I order a Big Mac. It's satisfyingly substantial, and opening the package is a joy. I graduated from AKB48, but staying true to my heart remains my personal theme. That's something I share with the Big Mac, whose taste has never changed."
After comparing the Big Mac and Bacon Big Mac, Watanabe commented, "The familiar Big Mac is delicious as always. I ate the Bacon Big Mac during the commercial shoot too, but tasting it again really highlights the difference. It has a great aroma." Takahashi praised the new flavor, saying, "The combination of bacon and Big Mac is a whole new experience. The smoky aroma of the bacon pairs perfectly."

After the tasting, when asked, "Is the new Big Mac Bacon a Big Mac or not?", Takahashi immediately answered, "It's a power-up version of the Big Mac, so YES!"
Meanwhile, Watanabe-san hesitated, saying things like, "It is a Big Mac, but the name is different..." and changed his answer several times. Finally, mimicking the new commercial "Watanabe's Dilemma," he jokingly exclaimed, "Someone decide for me!" drawing laughter.
