The opening ceremony took place at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, packed with approximately 80,000 spectators.
Centered around live performances by British global musician Robbie Williams and Russian soprano Aida Garifullina, the spectacular show celebrated the love of soccer. Performers in soccer ball costumes danced, and the production featured imagery inspired by the mythical Firebird, believed in Russia to grant wishes if its feathers are touched, delighting the audience.
The national team introductions featured women wearing costumes designed to represent each country, making for a colorful ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia kicked off at the same stadium. Despite being the lowest-ranked FIFA team among participants, host nation Russia secured a 5-0 shutout victory in their opening game.
