Tokyo Olympic Torch Relay: Full Schedule Announced March 26, 2020, starting in Fukushima Prefecture

On July 12, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced the departure point, departure date, and route through each prefecture for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.

The relay will start on March 26, 2020, in Fukushima Prefecture.
It will then travel south through the archipelago, passing through Shikoku and the eastern side of Kyushu before reaching Okinawa. After turning back in Okinawa, it will pass through the western side of Kyushu and the Chugoku region, then head north along the Sea of Japan coast to Hokkaido.
After traveling south through Iwate and Miyagi prefectures starting in mid-June, the torch will be transported by land to Shizuoka Prefecture. It will then pass through Yamanashi, Kanagawa, Chiba, Ibaraki, and Saitama prefectures before entering Tokyo, the host city.
The final destination is the New National Stadium, where the Opening Ceremony will be held on July 24.

The entire journey spans 121 days. Tokyo, the host city, will host the torch for 15 days. Four prefectures, including the three affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Kanagawa, where the stadium is located, will each host it for 3 days. The remaining prefectures will each host it for 2 days.
The concept for the 2020 Olympic Torch Relay is "Hope Lights Our Way / Connecting the Path of Hope."
Proposed routes within each prefecture will be selected by the respective prefectural organizing committees and announced in 2019.

Regarding runners, the Organizing Committee will compile all candidates, including those selected by prefectures and sponsors, and finalize the list with the approval of the International Olympic Committee.
Furthermore, from the perspective of the "Recovery Olympics," the flame lit in Greece will be displayed sequentially in the three disaster-affected prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima) as the "Flame of Recovery" prior to the torch relay.
