On October 3rd, the Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association announced the winners of the 2018 Newspaper Advertising Creative Contest. Entries were solicited under the theme "Newspaper," with 787 submissions received. The Grand Prize was awarded to "Fun Days" (photo) by Dentsu Inc.'s Taira Ishikawa.
"Happy Days" ironically expresses a sense of crisis: without newspapers, we might be overwhelmed and swept away by information about trends and fleeting interests. The judges praised it, stating, "It deliberately expresses the usefulness of newspapers by listing the internet's weaker aspects, and the output of the tongue-in-cheek copy and design is extremely skillful."
Winning entries can be viewed in the " Newspaper Advertising Data Archive." They will also be exhibited at the Japan Press Center Building 1F (Uchisaiwaicho, Tokyo) from October 10 to 20 (excluding the 14th), and at News Park (Japan Newspaper Museum) in Yokohama City from October 30 to March 31, 2019 (excluding closed days).
