■ ID Registration
The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced on December 25 that registrations for the TOKYO 2020 ID, required for ticket purchases, had surpassed one million.
The ID is required to purchase tickets on the official ticket sales site. Registered users receive ticket information and event-related updates via email newsletters.
The Organizing Committee began ID registration in July. It has run a gift campaign where applicants could win prizes like advance inspection tours, official licensed merchandise, and athlete-signed posters through a lottery.
The gender ratio of registrants is nearly 1:1, with registrations coming from across the nation.
■ Games Volunteers
The Organizing Committee announced that approximately 186,000 people applied for Games volunteer positions during the recruitment period from September to December 21. (The application deadline for visually impaired individuals is January 18, 2019).
The Organizing Committee expressed gratitude to the applicants and stated its desire to work together to make the Games a success.
Applicants were 37% male and 63% female. 63% were Japanese nationals, while 37% were non-Japanese. The most common desired number of days to volunteer was 10 days (37%), followed by 11-19 days (33%), and 30 days or more (16%).
The results of the naming vote for the Games volunteers are scheduled to be announced around late January 2019. Orientation sessions and training for the volunteers will then be conducted sequentially.
