February 4, 2019

The film "We Are Little Zombies," directed and written by Masayoshi Nagahisa of Dentsu Inc., has won the Special Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic category at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, hosted by the non-profit Sundance Institute (chaired by Robert Redford).

The Sundance Film Festival, held in Park City, Utah, USA since 1978, is the world's largest independent film festival. This year saw a record 14,259 submissions, with 112 feature films screened. This marks the first time a Japanese filmmaker has won the Special Jury Prize in the feature film category.

Naga Hisa previously made history in 2017 by becoming the first Japanese filmmaker to win the Grand Prize in the Short Film category at the same festival for his 2016 short film "And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool," which he also directed and wrote.

[Award Comment]
I was shocked to win! Thank you so much! And I heard this is the first time for a Japanese film. It's an overwhelming honor. I feel this is a way to repay the many colleagues who helped create this grand scenario.
Screenings at Sundance were always sold out and received tremendous acclaim! Hearing feedback like "The music won't get out of my head!" from so many people makes me feel like this might be a film that truly connects with the world...!
I'd be thrilled if this award news sparks interest among everyone in Japan too!
