SoftBank Commercial Suzu Hirose Sheds "February Tears"

SoftBank began airing the second installment of its "♬SoftBank Music Project" TV commercial series, the "Valentine" edition, on February 1st. This project features music, an essential part of daily life, as its central theme.

This project, which began with a collaboration with Ikimono-gakari on New Year's Day 2019 ("Don't Be Bound" edition), features collaborations with various artists throughout the year to create original songs. It conveys the message: "With music and smartphones, we can be even freer."

The "Valentine's Day" edition features "Nigatsu no Namida" (February Tears), a song written specifically for the commercial by the rock band CreepHyp, as its theme song.

The story follows Hirose, who is distraught after failing to give her handmade Valentine's chocolates to the senior she has a crush on. Trying to distract herself from her sadness, she attempts to watch a CreepHyp video on her smartphone, only to find she can't even properly view social media due to data speed restrictions. Further devastated, she wanders the streets crying while searching for a Wi-Fi spot, only to find herself lost in a vast snowfield.

The message "Don't be bound by speed limits" expresses the appeal of the new "Ultra Giga Monster+ (Plus)" service, which offers unlimited video streaming and social media.

Regarding the song, Hirose commented in an interview: "CreepHyp has such a distinctive voice, but this time the lyrics include 'Wi-Fi' – it's really innovative. I'm very excited to see how the artist's world blends with the commercial's vision and what kind of work it becomes."
