The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced the pictograms for all 23 Paralympic sports across 22 disciplines on April 13, 500 days before the opening of the Tokyo Paralympics (August 25, 2020).
These pictograms accurately represent each sport and play a vital role as communication tools conveying information.
They not only carry forward the pictogram concept born at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics but also feature a design that captivatingly showcases the dynamic movements of athletes.
Masakazu Hiromura, a designer on the Tokyo 2020 Sports Pictogram Development Team, commented: "We started from the legacy created by pioneers of Japan's design world at the 1964 Tokyo Games. It took nearly two years to complete, and the pictograms embody the passion of many involved. We hope these pictograms will build anticipation for the competitions before the Games and add color to the event itself."

They were also introduced during the stage program at the "500 Days to Go Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Park in Toyosu" event held the same day.
