eSports "Clash Royale League Asia 2019" Announces Pro Players from Japan's Four Participating Teams
Supercell, a mobile game developer, held a press conference on April 16 at Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho in Chiyoda Ward to introduce the professional players belonging to the four Japanese teams participating in the official e-sports league for the online strategy game "Clash Royale" (Clash Royale), the "Clash Royale League Asia 2019" (opening April 25).

Clash Royale is a real-time multiplayer card game where players combine cards featuring characters and spells to attack enemy bases. Its popularity stems from requiring advanced strategy and split-second decision-making, allowing players to compete against others worldwide, and enabling them to form groups called "Clans" to gain allies. The Clash Royale League was launched in March 2018.
Japan belongs to the "Clash Royale League Asia" division, which includes South Korea and other Asian countries and regions. In December of the same year, the "Clash Royale League World Championship 2018" was also held, where teams that won their respective regions competed to determine the world champion.

At the outset, Hiroshi Tonomura, Head of eSports Asia, stated, "Our company aims to develop games that leave a lasting impression. Similarly, the Clash Royale League is held with the motto of providing long-lasting enjoyment." He announced details for this season: "Last season's Clash Royale League Asia featured a three-division system held in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. This season, however, it will be held exclusively in South Korea. Twelve teams will be divided into two groups, competing in a round-robin format within each group (Phase 1) followed by cross-group matches (Phase 2)." He added, "Last year, the incredible battles between pro players created many dramatic moments. I'm confident this year will bring even more intense and exciting matches."
All matches will be streamed live on the official YouTube channel ( https://supr.cl/CRL_ASIA_JP ).

Seventeen players and coaches from Japan's four professional teams—DetonatioN Gaming, FAV gaming, GameWith, and PONOS—attended the press conference.

One of the players to watch, FAV gaming captain Kentsumeshi, expressed his determination: "Last year we finished second domestically and didn't make it to the world championship. With new players joining, we want to shift our mindset and give it our all."
Mikan Boya of PONOS (formerly PONOS Sports), who competed in last year's world championship as both a player and coach, expressed confidence: "We didn't win the world championship last time, but this year I can focus solely on playing as a player. With new additions to the roster, our team is well-prepared."
The top three teams from Season 1 (Phases 1 and 2) will earn the right to compete in the international e-sports tournament "World Cyber Games" (WCG), held in Xi'an, China, in July. At WCG, the top three teams from the "Clash Royale League Asia," "Clash Royale League West," and "Clash Royale League China" will face off in a regional competition, battling for the title of "World's Top Region."
