Tokyo Olympic Games Tickets Lottery applications open May 9!
On April 18, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced the pre-opening of the Tokyo 2020 Official Ticket Sales Site ( https://ticket.tokyo2020.org ) and stated that the application period for the ticket lottery would begin on May 9.
At the start of the press conference held in Tokyo, Masaaki Furumiya, Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, stated: "With over 2.2 million Ticket ID registrations, we feel the momentum building. Today's site pre-opening and the start of ticket applications after Golden Week will further increase this momentum. We hope everyone will come to the venues during the Games and experience the athletes' dynamic performances."
Olympian and medalist Kosuke Kitajima rushed to the venue and shared his thoughts on the Olympics and the Tokyo Games.
Regarding the announcement of ticket sales opening, he said, "I think many people have been waiting for this moment." He also expressed satisfaction with the sales site he had previewed ahead of time, noting, "You can quickly find the information you need, like narrowing down dates and venue access."
He also shared, "The Olympics are special; they were the dream stage since I was little. Both the Games where I won medals and those where I didn't are deeply memorable. While I was focused solely on competition during my active career, I now deeply appreciate how much the people around me supported me."
When asked which events he wants to watch at the Tokyo Games, his eyes lit up: "Swimming, of course, but I also want to see track and field and the newly added events. And definitely golf, which I recently started playing."
Finally, Kitajima stated, "The tournament is finally within everyone's reach. Get your tickets and experience the excitement and emotion of the event," then brought the venue to a fever pitch by declaring, "I can't say anything more than that!"
This time, the tickets available for lottery applications are three types: general admission tickets, wheelchair user tickets, and Tokyo 2020 Everyone Cheers Tickets (for families and groups). Official hospitality packages and official spectator tours are planned and under consideration for sale starting in May.
Applications will be accepted from May 9 to 28. Lottery results will be announced on June 20, after which the purchase process will begin.
