JR Kyushu Project to promote travel on the Shinkansen Mickey Mouse-themed trains also in operation
JR Kyushu has contracted with Walt Disney Japan to run the "Go! Waku Waku Trip with MICKY" project from May to November, promoting travel on the Kyushu Shinkansen.
This commemorates the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse's film debut.
On May 17, the "JR Kyushu Waku Waku Trip Shinkansen" (800 series, 1 set, 6 cars) featuring Mickey Mouse designs began operation.

Approximately 200 people (the Waku Waku Trip Squad), selected by lottery from applicants who submitted drawings depicting "things and experiences that make traveling in Kyushu exciting," boarded the first train to enjoy the "journey."
A departure ceremony was held at Hakata Station, the train's starting point. At Kagoshima Chuo Station, the final stop, Mickey Mouse made a surprise appearance at the welcoming ceremony, energizing the venue.

At the departure ceremony, President Toshihiko Aoyagi stated, "When we previously solicited artwork themed 'Exciting Things in Kyushu,' we received submissions from a wide range of ages nationwide, highlighting Mickey Mouse's global influence. We hope everyone enjoys riding this Shinkansen, adorned with Mickey Mouse designs and exciting Kyushu motifs."
Walt Disney Japan Vice President Atsushi Meguro commented, "We are honored to collaborate with JR Kyushu, which has long provided dreams and energy. This Shinkansen will run through Kyushu carrying everyone's smiles. Our founder Walt Disney, who loved railroads, would have been delighted to see this train."

The train features original artwork depicting Mickey Mouse on a journey through Kyushu, showcasing local specialties and travel items he discovered in each prefecture. Passengers can enjoy finding Mickey Mouse art hidden in unexpected places, including the seat headrests.

At the welcoming ceremony at Kagoshima Chuo Station, members of Disney's entertainment show "Blast! The Music of Disney" and the local Kamimura Gakuen Wind Ensemble performed the "Mickey Mouse March." Their powerful performance drew loud applause from the audience.
Furthermore, when Mickey Mouse made a surprise appearance as a special guest, the cheers grew even louder.
JR Kyushu is recruiting for the second Waku Waku Trip team (until June 24). Winners will be invited to ride the special train operating on August 1 (running from Hakata Station to Kagoshima Chuo Station). A live performance by "Dicappella," Disney's first official a cappella group, is scheduled to take place onboard.
