The 72nd Dentsu Inc. Advertising Awards Winners Announced

Panasonic Corporation and Fukushima Minpo Co., Ltd. Win Grand Prize

The 72nd Dentsu Inc. Advertising Awards have been decided, with Panasonic Corporation and Fukushima Minpo Co., Ltd. selected as the Grand Prize winners. This marks Panasonic's 32nd win, their first in four years, and Fukushima Minpo's first win. Notably, this is the first time multiple companies have been selected for the Grand Prize.

On May 24, the final selection committee meeting of the Advertising Dentsu Inc. Award Council was held at the Imperial Hotel in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. The "Grand Prize" in each category—Print Advertising, Audio Advertising, Film Advertising, OOH Advertising, Digital Communication, Activation Planning, and Innovative Approach— "Gold Awards," "Silver Awards," "Regional Awards" and "Sub-Regional Awards" for the Nagoya, Kyushu, and Hokkaido regions, and "Special Awards." The "Grand Prize" was decided last. Please refer to the attached document for details.

Starting this year, to clarify the award structure, the names of each award have been changed to: "Grand Prize" (Grand Dentsu Advertising Award), "Special Award" (Dentsu Advertising Award Special Prize), "Highest Prize" (Dentsu Advertising Award), "Gold Prize" (Grand Prize), and "Silver Prize" (Excellence Prize) (previous names in parentheses). Additionally, within the categories, the previous "Newspaper Advertising" and "Magazine Advertising" have been consolidated and reorganized into the newly established "Print Advertising." Furthermore, "OOH Media Advertising" has been changed to "OOH Advertising," and "Digital Media Advertising" has been changed to "Digital Communication." The categories within each division have also been reorganized.

Eligible advertisements were those implemented between April 1, 2018, and March 31, 2019 (March 1, 2018, for "Activation Planning"). A total of 1,424 entries were submitted to the Selection Committee, of which 412 advanced to the final selection.

Following the selection of individual awards at the final judging session held in Tokyo from May 14 to 23, the final selection committee meeting on May 24 determined all 57 winning entries.

Panasonic, awarded the Grand Prize, received the top prize in "Digital Communication," a Gold Prize in "Film Advertising," and a Silver Prize in "OOH Advertising." Fukushima Minpo Shimbun received the top prize in "Activation Planning," a Gold Prize in "Print Advertising," and a Silver Prize in "Film Advertising." Both companies were recognized for their outstanding achievements across their overall advertising activities.

The top awards in other categories were: "Print Advertising" - Takarajima Inc.; "Audio Advertising" - Dai-Nichi Jochugiku Co., Ltd.; "Film Advertising" - Sogo & Seibu Co., Ltd.; "OOH Advertising" - NTT DOCOMO, INC.; and "Innovative Approach" - The Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra Foundation. Additionally, the Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was selected for the "Special Award" for contributing to solving social issues through advertising and solutions while also achieving significant branding success.

The award ceremony will be held on July 1 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa International Hall Pamir in Minato-ku, Tokyo.

About the Dentsu Advertising Awards
The Dentsu Inc. Advertising Award, established in December 1947 (Showa 22), is Japan's oldest comprehensive advertising award. Operated by the public body "Dentsu Inc. Advertising Award Council," it aims to broaden paths for advertisers to solve their challenges and contribute to the development of Japan's industry, economy, and culture by honoring advertisers who have practiced outstanding advertising communication. Selection is conducted by a panel of approximately 500 judges comprising advertisers, media companies, creators, and experts from across Japan.
