The Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies Production Team announced:
"A show unlike anything anyone has ever seen is about to begin.
A huge stadium. Countless television cameras.
From the packed stands, countless flashes will rain down like stars in the galaxy.
We are looking for people to stand right in the middle of that field and help create the Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies together.
Just as some excel at sports, others excel at singing.
Some excel at dance. Some excel at playing instruments.
We want to create Opening and Closing Ceremonies where all these people
can shine on the world stage just like the athletes.
We want to create Opening and Closing Ceremonies where they can shine on the world stage.
Wanted!! Para-entertainers who can match the Paralympians.
Let's make the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics a huge success together!"
The call for applications states:

Recruitment categories are: Leading Cast (a few individuals: individual applications), Original Cast (approx. 20 people: individual/group applications) who perform using their unique personalities and talents, and Mass Cast (approx. 400 people: group applications) who perform in group dances.
The Organizing Committee encourages applications from people with disabilities or those perceived to have limitations in daily life. It states that the type of disability, possession of a disability certificate, or use of assistive devices will not affect the screening process.
After the application period closes, participants will be selected by late March 2020 following document, video, and interview screening. They will then undergo practice and rehearsals leading up to the Opening Ceremony (August 25) and Closing Ceremony (September 6).
The screening will be conducted by Executive Creative Director (Paralympics) Hiroshi Sasaki, Creative Director Ryo Kurusu, Keralino Sandrovich (stage director for the Opening Ceremony), and Kentaro Kobayashi (stage director for the Closing Ceremony).
Sasaki commented, "Our rival is the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies. We absolutely want to make the Paralympics exciting. The genius of contemporary theater, Keralino Sandrovich, and the equally brilliant Kentaro Kobayashi will direct the final stages of the Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies. This is a sensation. It's causing a stir. Expectations are soaring. KERA's 'Opening Ceremony' versus Kobaken's 'Closing Ceremony' – quite the showdown. We're urgently recruiting for the cast. You could be standing in the new National Stadium. You."
