The National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan announced on January 23rd the initiatives of commercial television networks and some of the major broadcast events for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will open in July.
For this home-hosted Games, they will establish an unprecedented broadcasting and production system, focusing on live coverage of major events to convey athletes' performances and the excitement of the Games.
During the Games, the five commercial networks will take turns broadcasting live events daily, starting around 9:00 AM (or 5:30 AM on some days) and continuing until the last event ends around 11:00 PM. Following the live broadcasts, starting at 11:00 PM, a program titled "TOKYO 2020 Premium" (tentative name) will air recorded highlights focusing on the day's most notable events, providing coverage for those who missed the live action.
