Approximately 1,000 people are planned to be hired for the Olympics and approximately 1,200 for the Paralympics. The recruitment period is from February 7 to 28, and applications can be submitted via the official recruitment site ( https://tokyo2020.org/jp/games/ceremony/assistantcast/ ).
Applicants must have been born on or before April 1, 2002, and must reside in Japan between April 1, 2020, and September 6, 2020, holding Japanese nationality or a valid residence status in Japan. After the application period closes, results will be notified in late March. Following orientation sessions and rehearsals, participants will take part in the respective opening and closing ceremonies.
Chief Executive Creative Director of the Games, Mansai Nomura, commented: "My desire to harness this miraculous moment, when so many people from around the world gather in Tokyo, as a force for the future has grown stronger each day. We've received many offers of support for this opportunity. Therefore, we have prepared a chance for many people to participate directly, close to the athletes, during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. We invite everyone to apply, warmly welcome athletes from around the world with smiles, and together, let's make 'TOKYO' and '2020' a huge success."
