Ezaki Glico will begin airing its new TV commercial, "Rock-Paper-Scissors Glico Opening," starting February 24.
The commercial features 12 Horipro talent celebrating the agency's 60th anniversary, including Haruka Ayase, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Tatsuya Fujiwara, Kyoko Fukada, Kenichi Matsuyama, Mitsuki Takahata, and Sosuke Ikematsu.
The company aims to make 2020 a special year through the power of smiles, which are said to be good for health, under the message "Let's make it an era of smiles. Smile.Glico," hoping people will smile in the new Reiwa era.
The commercial portrays "Rock-Paper-Scissors Glico" (where winning with rock lets you take three steps with "Glico," winning with scissors lets you take six steps with "Chocolate," and winning with paper lets you take six steps with "Pineapple") as a sport where you can move your body freely and laugh. The 12 star actors are seen genuinely enjoying "Rock-Paper-Scissors Glico" on a bright red grand staircase.
To heighten the intensity during filming, the cast was divided into a Red Team led by Ayase and a White Team led by Tsumabuki, competing in a men vs. women battle. The White Team won the team competition, and the men, led by Tsumabuki, dominated the top individual rankings.
The company plans to hold the main tournament for "JANKEN GLICO 2020," the competition to determine Japan's best rock-paper-scissors player, in Tokyo in May, inviting 90 participants. There are three ways to enter: "video submission," "regional qualifiers," and "web entry." Web entry registration began on February 20th.
Additionally, on the commercial's broadcast start date, three web videos promoting the tournament will be released sequentially on Glico's official YouTube channel.
