The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has created "animated sports pictograms" (Olympic Games: 33 sports, 50 types; Paralympic Games: 22 sports, 23 types) as an evolution of the Tokyo 2020 sports pictograms.

Sports pictograms were first introduced at the 1964 Tokyo Games to enable spectators from around the world to identify events without language barriers. The animated sports pictograms were created to further evolve this concept, aiming to make the Games the most innovative ever.
Rather than simply repeating the movements of each sport, the pattern involves adding "appearance" and "disappearance" motions before and after the existing static pictogram images to dynamically express them.
These pictograms are scheduled for use at competition venues and in broadcasts of the events.
Developing designer Kota Iguchi commented, "How could we evolve the already designed, dynamic pictograms by adding movement to convey the appeal of each sport more beautifully and effectively? After over a year, we finally completed it. I hope this will enhance the actual Games, become a new legacy passed on to the next Games, and serve as a baton for visual designers from various countries."
