New TV Commercial for "AJINOMOTO Olive Oil": Arashi's Ohno Transforms into "Popeye"

J-Oil Mills began airing new TV commercials for "AJINOMOTO Olive Oil Extra Virgin" and "AJINOMOTO Olive Oil" on March 19th. The "Let's OLIVE! Debut" edition features Satoshi Ohno of the idol group Arashi, while the "Let's OLIVE Spring/Summer" edition (airing from the 26th) also stars him.

The key message is "The oil that makes you the chef!" and features a collaboration with the popular American comic "Popeye," which aired in Japan in the late 1950s.
Ohno plays the live-action character "Satoshi Popeye," co-starring with his animated girlfriend Olive. They express the deliciousness of dishes made using the products.

Satoshi Popeye recreates Popeye's signature thick biceps and costume. Olive was meticulously redrawn to match the original's expressions, proportions, and mannerisms, then composited using the latest technology. The animation was handled by veteran animators with prior experience drawing Olive.
Olive's full name is "Olive Oil," creating a double meaning with the product. Another highlight of the commercial is the staging where their home is depicted as "Spinach House," a play on Popeye's favorite food, spinach.

In an interview, Ohno shared that as preparation for filming, "To get in the right mindset, I ate spinach three times a day. I still want to eat it even after filming (laughs)." When asked about foods that give her energy, she answered, "Ahi-ajo made with lots of olives. There was a time I ate it every day."
He further emphasized his love for olive oil, saying, "I add it to curry, and I often use it when making carpaccio with fish I catch myself."
The brand site ( https://www.j-oil.com/oliveoil/ ) features the commercial and behind-the-scenes footage.
