"Kubota LOVE Water Project" Ebichu passionately sings their love for tap water! (Video included)
On March 22, World Water Day, Kubota launched the "Kubota LOVE Water Project" to express gratitude to those who support Japan's water infrastructure and convey the company's commitment to its water environment business. The project includes the release of the web video "Sweet of Sweet ~Until It Reaches You~" (approx. 3 min 40 sec) on YouTube, featuring the popular idol group "Private Ebisu Middle School (Ebichu)" expressing their love for tap water through song and dance.
The company will celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2020. It began developing iron pipes for water supply in 1893, achieving Japan's first mass production. For over 120 years since, it has supported Japan's water infrastructure—regarded as world-class—through various technologies, products, and services.
The video expresses the importance of reflecting on and appreciating the everyday existence that supports our daily lives, made possible by the tap water we take for granted. This is conveyed by overlapping Ebichu's idol career, supported by many fans, with this theme.
It also highlights the "individuality" of tap water, noting how its taste and composition vary by region, focusing on the characteristics of tap water from five areas across Japan. Five members, each full of personality, introduce these features through unique song and dance.
The song was produced by music producer Hyadain, with video direction and choreography handled by creators representing the culture scene. The result is a piece enjoyable not just as a commercial video, but as an idol work in its own right.
The song's first and second choruses contrast "the growth story of an idols with personality" with "the story of tap water reaching the world." The lyrics "Sweet of Sweet," while representing "dear fans," also sound like "tap water," revealing the double meaning intended in its creation.
Furthermore, the division of parts, consciously reflecting each Ebichu member's character and backstory, creates a structure that will make fans smile.
