Winners Announced for All Japan Advertising Federation Japan Advertising Awards; Matsushita Prize Goes to Daiwa House Industry Chairman Higuchi
The All Japan Advertising Federation (AJAF) announced on January 31 that its Selection Committee for the 2nd AJAF Japan Advertising Awards convened on December 18 last year and decided on the award recipients. The award ceremony will be held during the proceedings of the 62nd AJAF Nagoya Convention on May 14.
The award recipients and the reasons for their selection (summary) are as follows.
<Matsushita Award>
Mr. Takeo Higuchi
Chairman and CEO, Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd.
He actively pursued humorous advertising campaigns, primarily through TV commercials, successfully expanding brand recognition across a broad demographic. By communicating corporate messages centered on the theme of co-creation and coexistence, he enhanced the company's brand credibility, fulfilled advertising's social mission, and contributed to the advancement and development of the advertising industry. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, he actively supported reconstruction efforts.
<Masariki Award>
Toshio Suzuki
Representative Director and Producer, Studio Ghibli
Joined Studio Ghibli at its founding in 1985, becoming a full-time member in 1989. He introduced a strategy of large-scale pre-release promotion through terrestrial TV and partnerships with other companies for Studio Ghibli, which produced highly acclaimed works like "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," and "My Neighbor Totoro." In 2001, "Spirited Away" drew 23.4 million moviegoers and earned ¥30.4 billion at the box office. He contributed to revitalizing the advertising industry and advancing Japanese cinema and animation.

Isao Takano
Advisor, Dentsu Inc.
Served as President and Chairman of Daiko Advertising. Active as a creator for many years, winning numerous awards. Guided the company with strong leadership under the corporate philosophy "Ideas win" – "Only outstanding ideas enable the strongest communication..." Through flexible communication strategies, he responded swiftly to changes in the advertising environment and worked to solve client challenges.
<Yamana Award>
Tadanori Yokoo
Visual Artist
He has held solo exhibitions at museums both in Japan and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, earning high international acclaim and numerous awards. His achievements in the graphic design and art industries, along with his ongoing activities that continue to influence younger generations, are highly regarded.
About the Zen-Kōren Japan Advertising Award
Zenkyoren inherited and reorganized the "Japan Advertising Award" commendation program, which had been conducted by the "Japan Advertising Club" since the 1950s, starting last year. It honors individuals who have contributed to the advancement and development of the advertising industry in relation to promoting the social mission of advertising. The awards include the "Matsushita Award" primarily for advertisers, the "Masariki Award" for media companies, the "Yoshida Award" for advertising-related companies, and the "Yamana Award" for creators.
