Dentsu Inc. Diversity Lab has updated its "LGBTQ+ Ally Action Guide: Know, Think, Act" for 2022.
The Ally Action Guide is a digital book created by Dentsu Diversity Lab, which has worked on LGBTQ+ issues for over a decade. It shares concrete actions based on input from LGBTQ+ individuals and allies* while summarizing fundamentals while citing the latest survey data, and has been utilized widely since its June 2021 release by individuals, companies/organizations, local governments, and educational institutions.
*People who understand LGBTQ+ issues and take action to support them. The term originates from the English word "ally" (meaning ally, comrade, supporter).
[2022 Edition Update Highlights]
To address the constantly evolving circumstances surrounding LGBTQ+, figures and explanations have been updated based on the latest information and more inclusive interpretations. Below are some of the updates.
Update Point ①: Gender Identity
・The order of "sex assigned at birth" and "gender identity" has been reversed, reflecting the principle that an individual's self-identified gender should be respected over their assigned sex.
・For "sex assigned at birth," since most countries and regions, including Japan, assign either male or female, we changed the representation from a gradient to a two-tone display.
Update Highlight #2: Event Calendar
・Updated to cover June 2022 to May 2023. Specific details known at the time of editing are included, and the number of listed events has been significantly increased.
