Dentsu Inc. will fully launch "high!", an in-flight entertainment service provided jointly with Peach Aviation and MyTheater, introducing the world's first on-demand movie delivery system linked to airline ticket data.
"high!" is a service enabling users who purchase Peach tickets to download movies, dramas, music programs, magazines, and games onto their smartphones or tablets using an app provided by My Theater. Aimed at making airport waiting times and air travel more enjoyable, trials began at Naha Airport in October 2012, with the service area expanding to Kansai Airport in March 2013.
The background for this service offering stems from My Theater's proprietary survey, which found that 80% of travelers desire "in-flight entertainment services even on LCCs (low-cost carriers)." Additionally, the genres of content sought vary significantly by gender and generation.
Considering these factors, the new "high!" app, jointly developed by the three companies, leverages flight ticket purchase databases to enable content delivery exclusively to travelers. Beyond the traditional airport download service, it introduces a highly requested feature: "downloading content to your own device in advance, at home or elsewhere." Furthermore, for time-limited downloads scheduled for boarding times, content can be viewed seamlessly without interruption, even if the communication environment or device changes before boarding, during the flight, or after arrival.
The new app incorporates Dentsu Inc.'s internationally promoted content ID management solution "RII"*, enabling features like time-controlled content (automatic deletion) with an extremely high level of security. Furthermore, utilizing RII facilitates the smooth exchange of rights information between content providers, distributors, and users, enabling the provision of diverse content.
*RII (Rights Information Interoperability) is an international standard for the interoperability of rights information, paving the way for multimedia content distribution across video streaming platforms. It was published in March 2013 as a common standard by two international standardization bodies: ITU-T H.751 and IEC 62698.
