The Japan National Football Team played their third group stage match against Colombia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil on June 25.
As part of the ongoing building lettering project at Dentsu Inc. headquarters in Shiodome, Tokyo, two messages were displayed on the 24th, the day before the match: "Victory is the only option" and "Tomorrow 5:00 KICKOFF." This was done to cheer on the team and build excitement for the game.
The match saw Japan equalize just before halftime with Shinji Okazaki's diving header, but Colombia scored three goals in the second half, resulting in a 1-4 loss and elimination from the group stage. That day's building message read: "We won't forget today's frustration." While Japan's challenge ended, the building message campaign will continue throughout the World Cup. We look forward to seeing messages that resonate with the increasingly intense tournament.
The match was broadcast live on the TV Asahi network. The average viewership rating (Kanto region) was 37.4%, with a peak rating of 52.7% around the 30-minute mark of the second half.
