The author is Kenta Toyama, the lead trainer for Gakken's new early childhood physical education program " Little Athlete Club (LAC)," which SPOLUTION helped develop. He is also the physical coach for the All Japan Ski Federation Freestyle Ski Team and the father of two children.
Concerned about the current decline in children's physical abilities and stamina, he developed the "LAC-style exercise program" with the help of sports doctors and early childhood physical education instructors. The goal is to increase the number of kids who love exercise ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This book explains how to master the "magic movements" that form the foundation of the "LAC-style" program. The program aims to prevent future risks of locomotive syndrome (※note) and improve children's motor skills by making exercise a habit. It proposes various ideas mothers can easily implement within everyday parenting—such as parent-child communication, household chores, and park play—to put the program into practice.
These parenting tips for making children love exercise – things only moms can do – embody LAC's philosophy: "So that all children can enjoy any exercise or sport energetically and to the fullest." The author states that a child's motor skills are not genetic but are greatly influenced by their nurturing environment.
