IKEA Japan Press Conference in a Large Tent

IKEA Japan held a press conference on August 28 at MAGIC BEACH, a complex facility in Toyosu, Tokyo, to announce its 2015 business initiatives. A large, uniformly white tent was erected on the facility grounds. The presentation was conducted within this space, and the appeal was reinforced through room sets coordinated using IKEA products.

At the outset, President Peter List announced plans to double the company's scale by expanding its current eight domestic stores to fourteen by 2020. He explained that this year's theme is "Start and end your day in a wonderful place," with a particular focus on the bedroom and bathroom as especially important spaces. Over 1,500 new products will be launched, along with 15 limited-edition collections.

President List expressed confidence in the business's future potential, noting that research into the current state of Japanese interiors revealed significant room for improvement. He stated that to address this, the company offers diverse lifestyle solutions based on its "Democratic Design" philosophy, which balances excellent design, functionality, quality, sustainability, and affordability.

In the room set area, five types of bedrooms and three types of bathrooms were displayed. Ideas and solutions were proposed to create "wonderful places" tailored to the needs of residents with set profiles and lifestyles, such as couples raising children, single women living with their parents while working, newlywed couples, and senior couples.

On stage, a presentation was given about the "IKEA Catalog 2015." In addition to videos available in the digital version, features like AR (augmented reality) were introduced, allowing users to see images of furniture laid out in their own homes. Approximately 10 million copies of the paper catalog were printed, with distribution starting on August 29.

A separate booth at the venue featured a lunch space where salmon-based dishes were served to the press. The company is also focusing on its food business (IKEA Food), which it promotes alongside its interior offerings.
