"JARO 40th Anniversary Symposium" Held
The Japan Advertising Review Organization (JARO) held its "JARO 40th Anniversary Symposium" on October 1 at the Iino Hall in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.
At the start of Part 1, JARO Chairman Toyohiko Yamauchi delivered opening remarks expressing gratitude for the past 40 years. He also introduced the "JARO 10-Year Vision" as a new beginning, emphasizing three goals: "Achieving fair and outstanding review activities," "Serving as a hub for advertising and labeling standardization," and "Promoting fair play in advertising and labeling that prioritizes consumer interests." |
Following this, Tsuneo Matsumoto, Chairman of the National Consumer Affairs Center, delivered a keynote speech titled "Recent Trends in Consumer Policy and Expectations for JARO." He explained the history of consumer policy, the role of the National Consumer Affairs Center, and corporate social responsibility. Regarding the realization of fair and sound markets and society, and safe and secure lives, he concluded, "By influencing and changing each other, government, businesses, and consumers can collectively improve the overall situation." |
Part II featured a panel discussion on "Advertising and Ethics," divided into two sessions.
Part I, "TV Commercials and Ethics," was moderated by Risa Tanaka, Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Sendenkaigi. Panelists included Koichi Hanyu, Head of the Media Strategy Office, Communication Division, Shiseido; Kazuhito Izumiyama, Director of Program Review, TV Asahi; Matsumoto, Chairman of the National Consumer Affairs Center; and Shinya Nakajima, Managing Director of Tohokushinsha.
Part II addressed "The Role and Responsibility of Media in Advertising." Executive Managing Director Nakajima stepped down from Part I, and Kazutoshi Tomoe, Director of the Media Business Bureau at Kodansha, joined the panel.
The symposium was attended by 390 people. All attendees received a copy of " Advertising Legal Q&A " (Sendenkaigi), recently published by the organization to mark its 40th anniversary.
