Internet advertising company Adways (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) has launched its first smartphone app in Southeast Asia. Partnering with the Japanese content-focused cable TV channel "Hello! Japan," the app aims to bridge television and social networking services (SNS).
The app, named "Social Gate," allows users to check program details, receive broadcast time notifications, and chat with friends watching the same show. It also features real-time posting of program reactions to Twitter and Facebook.
The app was planned by Adways' Singapore subsidiary and developed by its Indonesian subsidiary. "Hello! Japan," which launched in December, is currently available to 570,000 households. The app aims to attract 100,000 users within three months of its launch.
The company plans to roll out the app across the 10 Asia-Pacific countries and regions where "Hello! Japan" is preparing to expand. It also intends to invite other TV stations to partner with the app, aiming to expand the range of participating content.
