NEC (Nippon Electric Company) and the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced on February 19 that they have signed a "Gold Partner" agreement for the 2020 Games.
The contract covers the categories "Advanced Public Safety Products (including biometric authentication)" and "Network Products (including SDN)". Gold Partners are positioned at the top tier of the Tokyo Games' three-tier sponsorship structure and hold rights including the use of the Games' official name and marks.

The company's President Nobuhiro Endo stated, "We want to pool all our resources and use various innovations to deliver a Games that people can truly enjoy."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "We ask for your support in ensuring the safety of the Games through providing the necessary communication network support and introducing cutting-edge security technology."
This Gold Partner agreement makes Canon the fourth company to sign, following Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), Asahi Breweries, and Canon.
