CCC Media House, publisher of Figaro Japon magazine, held an anniversary event at Omotesando Hills in Shibuya, Tokyo, on March 28-29 to celebrate the magazine's 25th anniversary. True to the magazine's frequent travel-themed articles, the event was titled "Bon Voyage," meaning "Have a wonderful journey!"
At the premium ceremony on the 28th, Editor-in-Chief Midori Nishimura stated, "We thank our readers and everyone who has supported us over these 25 years. To express that gratitude, we planned 'Bon Voyage' as an event where you can experience Figaro itself."
Following this, singer Yumi Matsutoya, who will be featured in the new serialized column "Bonjour, Yumi!" starting in the May issue (on sale March 20th), made a surprise appearance as a secret guest. Matsutoya, who was selected as "Figaro's Choice: Beautiful Traveler" and readily accepted the offer for the column, commented, "Through the interviews for the serial, I felt like I was able to travel again, revisiting places I thought I already knew well."
Matsutoya then participated in a premiere conversation with author Maha Harada. Matsutoya and Harada are mutual admirers of each other's work, with Harada also serving as the first guest for "Bonjour, Yumi!". Their stage talk centered on travel. When asked "What does travel mean to you?", Matsutoya concluded by saying, "It's a cliché, but 'finding myself'."
Additionally, the event venue featured over 30 content offerings embodying Figaro Japon's worldview, including a global gourmet food market and a miscellaneous goods market. Popular attractions included portrait sessions by illustrators featured in the magazine and a charity market run by stylists, both drawing long lines.
Regarding aspirations for the 25th anniversary, Editor-in-Chief Nishimura commented, "We want to continue Figaro's journey, one filled with many new discoveries."
