The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and ASICS signed a Tokyo 2020 sponsorship agreement on April 6, making ASICS the 10th Gold Partner.
The contract category is sports equipment (sports apparel and athletic gear), with the term running until December 31, 2020.
The company served as the Official Footwear Sponsor for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and as an Official Sponsor for the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. It has also supported national teams at other Olympic and Paralympic Games by providing shoes and apparel to athletes and sports federations.
President Motoi Oyama commented, "Our philosophy of contributing to the healthy development of youth through sports aligns with the founding beliefs of the modern Olympic Games. We aim to leverage our experience to help make the Tokyo Games an event the world can be proud of."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori stated, "At the Games, not only the Japanese national team but everyone, including volunteers, will wear ASICS uniforms. We want to approach the Games united as All Japan."
