Japan's national table tennis team plays music on the ping pong table! PLAY THE PINGPONG

TV Tokyo, in a joint project with Dentsu Inc., has launched the "THIS IS PINGPONG Project" to build excitement for table tennis ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This project aims to widely communicate the appeal of table tennis by presenting the sport from a fresh perspective.

The first initiative, "PLAY THE PINGPONG," expresses the sport through "technology" and "music," offering new ways to enjoy it for both spectators and players.

For this project, renowned Japanese DJ DAISHI DANCE created an original track themed around table tennis. TV Tokyo then arranged this music, leading to a world-first attempt: the Japanese men's national table tennis team performing by treating the table as an instrument.

The table was projected with a design resembling a DJ's MIDI controller. Players freely rallied, and infrared sensors detected the position of the ball, changing the sound tone based on where it was hit.

This performance was filmed and turned into a 2.5-minute long commercial, which began airing on April 26. The official website ( http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/takkyu/playthepingpong ) also launched on April 27.

The cool presence of Japan's men's national table tennis team and the players' breathtaking ball control and speed are a sight to behold.
