The Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Program (domestic only) has three tiers: Gold Partner, Official Partner, and Official Supporter. Each level grants specific rights, such as the use of titles and logos. While 13 domestic companies have been selected as Gold Partners, these two are the first Official Partners. Sponsorship generally follows a "one company per industry" rule, but an exception was made this time following discussions with the IOC.
JAL President Yoshiharu Ueki referenced the company's role in transporting the Olympic flame from Athens for the 1964 Tokyo Games and its longstanding partnership with the Japanese Olympic Committee and Japanese Paralympic Committee in supporting the Japanese national teams. He stated, "Leveraging our past experience, we aim to support athletes and stakeholders, deepen our athlete support activities, and contribute to the Games' success."
ANA President Osamu Shinobe noted common ground between the Tokyo Games' core vision and his company group's management philosophy: "Contributing to a future filled with dreams through wings that connect the world." He expressed, "We wish to support the athletes' challenges so that the success of the Tokyo Games leads to the development of a Tokyo and Japan that can be proud to the world."
