Kinki University Launches New International Studies Department with Newspaper Advertisement

Kinki University placed a newspaper advertisement on October 15th announcing the establishment of its Faculty of International Studies. This was part of a special initiative sponsored for the 68th Newspaper Convention held in Osaka City. Five newspapers (Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Nikkei Shimbun, Sankei Shimbun) featured full-page color advertisements in their Osaka headquarters edition morning papers, each with a unique visual design under the theme "Making Newspapers More Interesting." Each paper also ran a five-column advertisement on the opposite page, showcasing the visuals from the other four papers and explaining the project's purpose.

The production was handled by Keita Kusaka and his team at Dentsu Inc. Kansai Branch. They are known for creating interesting posters for shopping districts like Osaka's Shinsekai Market. Five teams of young creators each took charge of producing the pages for one newspaper company.

Ten students from the Social and Mass Media Studies program in the university's Faculty of Integrated Social Studies participated in the production. They learned about the advertising production process by observing the work of cutting-edge creators. It also provided an opportunity to experience the value of newspapers firsthand, amidst concerns about declining newspaper readership among university students.
