Volkswagen exhibits at the Tokyo Motor Show. Strengthening its electrification push.

Volkswagen Group Japan (VGJ) exhibited a total of 17 vehicles, including one concept model, at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show (October 29 - November 8, Tokyo Big Sight).

At the October 28 press briefing, Sven Stein, President and CEO of VGJ, and Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, took the stage. They apologized for the series of diesel emissions scandals, outlined their policy to regain trust, and explained that future products would focus on strengthening electrification, including plug-in hybrids.

Unveiled on stage was the "Tiguan GTE," a concept model scheduled for introduction in 2016. This plug-in hybrid SUV operates as a fully electric, zero-emission vehicle during takeoff, capable of traveling up to 50 kilometers. Solar modules mounted on the roof generate enough electricity annually to power the vehicle for up to 1,000 kilometers.

The Passat GTE, making its Japanese debut, is a plug-in hybrid embodying three distinct characters: EV, sports car, and long-distance touring vehicle.

The Polo WRC, which achieved the triple crown of Manufacturers' Championship, Drivers' Championship, and Co-Drivers' Championship in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for three consecutive years, boasts a fierce appearance befitting a vehicle that conquered grueling races across the globe.
