The winners of the WOMMY Awards, hosted by the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA), were announced on November 3rd. From Japan, Dentsu Inc. Young & Rubicam (Dentsu Y&R) and Dentsu Inc. Public Relations (Dentsu PR) were the only recipients, winning for their project "Wearable_Banana" developed for their client, Dole.

This award is an industry prize that annually recognizes outstanding word-of-mouth marketing projects, now in its 10th year since 2006. The Wearable Banana won Silver in the Momentum category, Bronze in the Engagement category, and Bronze in the Technology Implementation category.
The Wearable Banana is the world's first "edible wearable device," developed for runners in the February 22, 2015 Tokyo Marathon. Worn on the wrist, it displayed completion times, heart rates, supportive messages retrieved from Twitter, and locations along the marathon course where participants could obtain Dole's "Premium Banana." It generated significant buzz and contributed to increased awareness of Dole bananas.
This initiative also won an award at the Golden World Awards for Excellence, presented by the International Public Relations Association in London, UK, in June of this year.
