Toyota Motor Corporation announced its sponsorship agreement with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as an IPC Worldwide Paralympic Partner (WPP) through 2024, including the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, at a press conference held on November 26 at the Palace Hotel in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.
WPP is the highest level of global sponsorship for the Paralympics, enabling the sponsoring company to provide global support for the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games and related activities.
The product category encompasses all mobility solutions, including vehicles such as passenger cars and compact mobility devices, related services like ITS and telematics services, and diverse assistive technologies like mobility support robots and wearable robots.
At the outset, IPC President Philip Craven took the stage following anintroductionbyPresident Akio Toyoda. President Craven expressed his delight at the agreement signing and revealed that this is the first comprehensive contract covering the IPC, all NPCs (National Paralympic Committees), and each Paralympic Games as a Paralympic sponsor. He also presented slides explaining how this will contribute to the growth and development of the Paralympics and support the IPC's vision and objectives.
He particularly emphasized that the shared passion for providing mobility to all is essential for unlocking the full potential of Paralympians and enabling them to pursue their dreams. He stated his conviction that the Tokyo 2020 Games will be even more spectacular.
President Toyoda stated that when someone wants to take on a challenge, if "mobility" becomes an obstacle, Toyota wants to confront that challenge head-on. Drawing on his own experiences, he passionately shared, "I am deeply moved by athletes who never give up and keep fighting. Paralympians are fighting to surpass their own limits, expand their possibilities, and for the sake of those who support them." He concluded by stating that through the Paralympics, Toyota aims to challenge itself in activities that expand "freedom of mobility" and "the thrill of sports. "
