On May 5th, Atlus held an event that bathed Tokyo Tower in Minato Ward in a brilliant red glow. This coincided with the announcement of the release date for Persona 5, the latest installment in the popular role-playing game series Persona, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The company had previously teased the event on its campaign site with the message, "On May 5th, we're taking over Tokyo Tower." Fans were buzzing on social media and elsewhere about what might happen.
On the day, Tokyo Tower—which had been lit up in seven special colors during Golden Week—suddenly went dark at 10 PM. It was then illuminated entirely in red, "taken over" by the game's theme color until 11 PM. While Tokyo Tower is strongly associated with the red color of its steel framework, this marked the first time in history it was lit up entirely in red.

Then, gradually, the spotlights known as the "Diamond Veil" also lit up red, as Tokyo Tower was taken over.
This event, along with new game information, was live-streamed for 90 minutes on the membership-based video site "NicoNico Douga," viewed by approximately 300,000 people. "Persona" became a buzzword online.
