Sukiya Headquarters, which operates a nationwide gyudon chain, held a new TV commercial launch event on June 16 at Laforet Museum Roppongi in Minato Ward, Tokyo.
At the outset, President Ryutaro Okitsu introduced the "Unagi Beef Bowl," a summer seasonal item sold since 2007. This product combines gyudon and kabayaki-style eel in one bowl. Expressing confidence, he stated, "The combination of gyudon, which is highly nutritious and well-balanced, and eel, which contains vitamins said to combat fatigue, is the ultimate pairing." He added, "We hope people will eat Una-gyu to get through the hot season ahead." He also announced the broadcast of a new TV commercial featuring comedian Tatsuya Shitara of the comedy duo Banana Man and talent Megumi Yasu.
The "Unagyu 2016 Family" edition, airing from the 24th, features Tetsura and Megumi as a married couple. It depicts a family enjoying unagyu together in a warm, friendly atmosphere at Sukiya. Additionally, the "Unagi Day" edition, airing for five days starting July 26th, shows office worker Tetsura enjoying unagyu with a junior colleague during lunchtime.
After the commercial screening, Shitara and Yasu took the stage. They shared their thoughts on filming: "The set had a warm atmosphere, and I think the commercial successfully captured that family feeling," and "A set identical to an actual restaurant was built, allowing us to act naturally." Shitara, who is a fellow comedian with Yasu's husband, Higashi Takahiro, admitted with a blush, "While I was conscious of Higashi-san, I approached the shoot thinking of Yasu as my real wife."
Both regular Sukiya customers, they recommended other menu items besides the Unagi Beef Bowl, such as the "Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl" and the "Okra & Pork Bowl with Bonito Flakes." They highlighted Sukiya's appeal as "affordable, delicious, and diverse menu options, numerous locations, and reliable quality control." After tasting the Unagi Beef, Shitara raved, "The combination of gyudon and eel is a dream collaboration!" When the MC, looking envious, said, "Just watching makes me want to eat it so badly," Shitara made him laugh by responding with the commercial's line, "Right!?"
Finally, the two shared a message: "Eat lots of Una-gyu with someone special and beat the summer fatigue!"
