The film depicts another story set in the same world, time, and featuring the same characters as the game "FINAL FANTASY XV," scheduled for simultaneous worldwide release on September 30. FINAL FANTASY XV, in which Ayano plays the protagonist Nix and Kutsuna plays the heroine Lunafreya, is the latest installment in Square Enix's popular FINAL FANTASY role-playing game series, which has sold over 115 million copies worldwide.
At the opening event, Kutsuna appeared in a white dress reminiscent of Lunafreya, followed by Ayano arriving alongside a custom-modified new Audi R8, mirroring the vehicle featured in the game. Amidst thunderous cheers, Ayano escorted Kutsuna as they slowly walked down the red carpet leading to the stage.
Ayano, a self-proclaimed huge fan of the "FINAL FANTASY" series, praised its worldview: "It's a work centered on the theme of light and darkness, relentlessly exploring which side's justice is truly right—the protagonist's or the antagonist's. That core continues to this day, and I feel an overwhelming strength and richness that never wavers." His passionate talk impressed director Takeshi Nozue, who remarked, "You know more than I do!"
Ayano continued, sharing his passionate thoughts: "As a fan, I was anxious about being involved in this project. Recognizing the incredible skill of professional voice actors and the overwhelming gap between them and myself, I thought about what I could contribute as an actor. I hoped to repay the debt to FINAL FANTASY, which shaped my very being during my middle and high school years."
Kutsuna similarly commented on the difficulty of acting solely through voice, stating, "Since we're not professional voice actors, we approached the recording sessions feeling discouraged many times. It was a valuable experience, though, as we were stimulated and could see our own growth within the short timeframe."
When asked, "If you were living in the FINAL FANTASY world, what job would you want?", Ayano gave a niche answer: "The Onion Knight." Further, when asked, "Who's your favorite character?", he surprised the audience with "Morpheus," drawing laughter.
In response, a giant monitor beside the stage displayed a stylized illustration of a Molbol drawn by Nozue himself. A colorful cake designed with that illustration also appeared on stage. Ayano, Kutsuna, and Nozue cut into the cake together. At the event's conclusion, wishing for the film's success, the three fired special hand cannons. Metal blue tape, evoking the color of Nix's magic, flew into the air.
