An exchange meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Japanese Olympic delegation was held on August 21 at the "Tokyo 2020 JAPAN HOUSE" in the Bacha district of Rio de Janeiro.
Attendees included Prime Minister Abe, delegation leader Seiko Hashimoto, 28 athletes including wrestling captain Saori Yoshida, Japan Olympic Committee Vice President Hirofumi Kono, Education Minister Hirokazu Matsuno, Sports Agency Commissioner Daichi Suzuki, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Koichi Hagiuda, and Tokyo 2020 Executive Director Toshiro Muto.
First, Prime Minister Abe offered words of appreciation and praise to each of the 28 athletes individually.
Standing on the podium, Prime Minister Abe stated, "Your unwavering dedication, never giving up until the very end, has given us courage, dreams, and inspiration. We are truly grateful. Many citizens are awaiting your return. Please share with the nation the valuable experiences you gained at the Rio Olympics, including your interactions with foreign athletes and the citizens of Rio." He then expressed his determination for the Tokyo 2020 Games, saying, "I will do my utmost to ensure we compete in the best possible condition."

As a memento, Team Leader Hashimoto presented Prime Minister Abe with a replica of the Rio Olympics Japanese team's sportswear.
Finally, the venue was filled with a warm atmosphere as the athletes posed for commemorative photos with smiles.
