On October 27, the Corporate Mecenat Council announced the seven winning activities for the "Mecenat Award 2016" (1 Grand Prize, 5 Excellence Awards, 1 Special Award: Agency for Cultural Affairs Commissioner's Award).
The awards recognize corporate activities that are particularly outstanding from the perspective of social innovation through arts and culture support.
Executive Director Taneo Kato stated, "We received diverse applications, including initiatives addressing social issues through arts and culture, ongoing support for disaster-affected areas, and various regional projects. Corporate patronage activities are diverse and will continue to expand their reach. We ask for your continued support."

This year, Nihon Woolen Mills' "Wind from the Workshop" won the Grand Prize. The initiative was recognized for its focus on crafts connected to daily life, its contribution to fostering living culture, and its efforts to discover and nurture new artists.
Sanae Inagaki, Director of the company's Nikke Shrine Forest, expressed her delight at the award: "I was very surprised. I am deeply honored. We will use this award as encouragement to continue striving forward."

Other diverse regional activities were also showcased, including architecture, discovering and nurturing young creators, and children's culture.
The award ceremony is scheduled for November 24 in Tokyo.
