Suntory Beverage & Food International began airing the "Showa" edition of its "Boss Rainbow Mountain Blend" TV commercial, the 57th installment in its "Earth Survey Series," starting December 1st.
This series features alien Jones, played by Hollywood actor Tommy Lee Jones, who disguises himself as an Earthling and investigates the planet while working in various occupations.
This time, themed around the Showa era, it features transcending time and space to co-star with figures who led Showa culture, such as Rokusuke Ei, Yukio Ninagawa, and Kyosen Ohashi, who passed away this year.
The commercial depicts Alien Jones recalling his investigations of Earth from the Showa era. He reminisces through footage and photos about infiltrating Nagasuke's radio program, Ninagawa's theater rehearsal space, and Ohashi's TV show—each time as a director/staff member or performer.
The scene shifts to Jones working at a Shibuya redevelopment construction site, where voices proclaiming "The Showa era is over" echo all around. Hearing a young female coworker's passionate feelings about building the city of the future, Jones reflects on the messages left behind by the pioneers of the Showa era. With hope in his heart that the young generation born in the Heisei era will pioneer a new age, Jones reports, "Something seems to be starting on this planet." Through him, the commercial sends encouragement to all working people.
The music features the classic songs "Let's Meet in a Dream" and "Look Up and Walk On," both with lyrics by Nagasawa. The latter is sung by Kazuo Sakamoto, while the former is performed by a major artist born in the Showa era.
