Morinaga & Co. will air two new TV commercials for its "DARS" chocolate starting December 6.
The CM features popular character actor Masaki Suda. Coincidentally, Suda was born in 1993, the same year as DARS, and "DARS" spelled backwards becomes "Suda."
The "Daily DARS Day" edition's theme is "HAPPY DARS DAY!" every day. The story follows Suda rushing to celebrate someone who had a good day, no matter how small the good thing was, singing "Happy DARS Day to You♪" instead of "Happy Birthday♪". He appears for a woman leaning on a dozing salaryman on the train and a man whose convenience store total ends in sevenes. The amusing punchlines come from him cheekily putting his arm around the woman or slipping a DARS into the total.
In the "Dozens Day" episode, Mr. Suda appears to promote December 12th as "Dozens Day."
You'd think he'd celebrate other commemorative days like "Kanji Day," "Mentaiko Day," or "Battery Day," but he ends up disrupting a calligrapher and ultimately just promoting "dars."
The company launched its smartphone campaign "Arrange Dars" on November 29th. Access the site, upload a photo of arranged Dars pieces, and enjoy over 100 types of movie and game content. Limited-time videos featuring Mr. Suda will also be released sequentially.
Furthermore, a "Win a Dars with Suda-san's Autograph Twitter Campaign" will run on Dars Day, December 12th. Post a "Dars & Happy" photo for a chance to win a signed Dars box in a lottery.
